Litters

I am a breeder with a limited number of dogs. I breed to produce the best examples of the breed with characteristics that best represent the breed standard. I evaluate each puppy for show potential, keeping the best for my next show hopefuls. Those I can not keep due to numbers are placed in show or pet homes. I breed Champion parents, so you will get beautiful puppy that was bred for quality and temperament, at a reasonable price! Please carefully check out the breeder before you buy. Most breeders who are breeding to the standard are also showing their puppies in conformation. Do not be fooled by an occasional show picture on their web site. Most good breeders are actively involved in their parent organization, local breed clubs and/ or local breed clubs.

My puppies are born and raised in my house. At the age of 3 days, the puppies begin the " Super Dog Program." This program was developed by the Army to train their dogs. Puppies are exposed to small amounts of stress, such as turning them on their back, and providing tactile stimulation. The program has been shown to increase heart rate, produce increased resistance to disease and reduce stress. - See - www.breedingbetterdogs.com/achiever.html

The litter is weaned at the dam's (mother) discretion, usually beginning around 6 weeks of age. Puppies are initially fed a gruel of goat's milk, ground dry kibble and baby cereal. They are then introduced to softened dry kibble and canned puppy food. Puppies are kept together as a litter until they are approximately 10 wks old. At this time I begin seperating the litter into smaller groups. They continue to be with their dam at specific times of the day until they leave for their new homes at 12 weeks of age. The puppies are immunized at 8, 12 and 16 weeks.

If you are considering a purchase a puppy, please visit the American Shih Tzu Club at www.shihtzu.org/. They have a wealth of information about the Shih Tzu. Sections concerning health, grooming and conformation are included. The AKC web site ( www.akc.org/) has a significant amount of information for pet and show owners.
